23 Ramadan 2019: “Sharing is caring”

No one knows for certain how much impact they have on the lives of other people. Often times, we have no clue – Jay Asher

On 21 Ramadan, I wrote a post about the link between belonging and asking for help. In this post, I follow-on with reaching out and giving help even when not asked; whether in the form of action or advice.

First in terms of action. We are meant to be in touch with others particularly those close to us from family and friends. While it does not have to be intimate and profound, it does need to be at a level that any needs are identified through verbal and facial expressions even if the other person does not directly elude to it. It may mean action as simple as making supplications for them but in essence, we are out there making an impact.

Second in terms of advice. We always hear about how people don’t like unsolicited advice. While I see how that could be, I have also seen how what we say and what we do affects others. I personally do not believe that experiences and learnings are meant to stay with us. I believe that experiences and learnings are meant to be shared and with as many people as possible benefitting from them. The key is the place, time and who such information is shared with. Unless an experience or learning is too personal and too dark to share, I have seen many benefits from broadening one’s thinking as the opinion of others is heard and not necessarily to avoid doing the same “mistake” but at least be prepared for an experience that may match the one shared.

In these last precious days of the holy month, I ask god to give us strength to share with others our learnings and experiences in a way that is gentle so that even in our tribulations, we benefit others.
